Club History

Aberdeen Rugby League was initiated in the summer of 2010 by a pilot season with an U15 section under the name "Bon Accord Bulls". The young players made a huge impact on the area and after a positive and interesting summer the founding members of Craig Parslow, Ray Hall and Thomas Lee decided to bring the club to life so in Feb 2011 Aberdeen Rugby League was born.

In our first year of existence the club was able to put our an U15 and U17 teams named Aberdeen Spartans and an Open Age team called Aberdeen Warriors. This was to prove a stepping stone for the club for future endeavours as in the first season saw the U15 side make the Scottish Grand Final with the U17 just narrowly missing out and our Open age team to prove too strong for the other new comers into the RLC (Scotland) Division 1 by being undefeated in all their games and winning the RLC (Scotland) Division 1 Grand Final 72-4 over Moray Titans who also formed in the same year. Aberdeen Rugby League also aided Aberdeen Grammar School and Westhill Academy in starting their own Rugby League teams where Aberdeen Grammar went on to win the first ever Saltires Schools Cup for the S2/S3 (John Risman cup) and S4/S5 (George Fairburn Cup) age groups with Westhill coming narrow runners up. Aberdeen also sent 6 players down to the Scotland Origin game where the players played for the East and beat the West 46 - 12 in what was a hard fought battle.

With the growing success of the sport in the North, Scotland Rugby League would initiate the North Player Development Centre (PDC) for U15 to U18 age groups which was created to coach and aid the better youth players in the North of Scotland for National Selection. This proved imperative for the club as it helped new players join the game and gave those already playing a more beneficial background to the game of Rugby League. The PDC was ran and coached by the staff at Aberdeen Rugby League and facilitated by Scotland Rugby League who had almost 100 of the best players overall competing for residential places in there respective age groups where Aberdeen Rugby League had numerous players featuring at every age group.

Rolling on to the 2012 season with the success of the previous year saw Aberdeen Rugby League grow by almost 100%... Aberdeen Rugby League would be the FIRST ever club in Scotland Rugby League history to have 2 sides at Open Age level (Warriors Reds and Whites) not only that they were also the first club to have 2 U17 teams (now called the Samurais). This would be just the start of things for the 2012 Season. With the re-structuring of the league system it was derived that a North and Central Leagues would take place where the U15 and U17s would go on to win the North League and go onto the Scottish Grand Final. The Youth players had a hard year with the unfortunate collapse of the other Northern Youth teams happening as the season progressed the boys stuck together and played each other week in week out to keep their skills up and go on to represent the club at the Grand Final. The Open Age Team would go on to win the North League undefeated and won their place in the Scottish Grand Final to join the Youth players and making the club again make History in being the first ever club to have a team in every game on Grand Final day. All teams just missing out on the wins. More Players would go on to represent Scotland RL at various levels from U16-U19 and Scotland Students.

With the 2013 season upon us and the club continuing to build and grow the only way is up for Aberdeen Rugby League and we hope you all manage to support the boys for the season.
